This has been a marvellous year which has included the Olympic Games and the Diamond Jubilee. I have been to see the Olympic Torch Relay, seen the Queen's visit to Birmingham and various associated events. Of these, possibly the most awesome and spectacular was the performance of The Voyage in Birmingham. But nothing could have prepared me for the sheer fun, laughter and merriment that I witnessed today in Walsall.
Bayards Colts enacted the first of a series of four traditional mummers plays. This play was based on the Robin Hood theme and was written by David Calcutt. There were plenty of opportunities for the several hundred strong audience to join in, and an early downpour of rain provided the opportunity for an impromptu song session under shelter.
Here are some of the photos I took of "Robin Hood and the Giant".
One of several instances of audience participation, a song to sing.
